Cultural tour Kinnaur-Spiti-Ladakh

From Shimla the road goes down into the Satluj Valley and follows the river upwards though Kinnaur to Spiti. In Kinnaur there are traces of Hinduism and a strong influence of Tibetan Buddhism, but most important in the Kinnauri villages is still the cult of the local deities and at the village festivals great respect is paid to them. You see different temples and royal forts at Rampur, Sarahan and Sangla. After passing deep gorges and steep slopes you reach the terrace of Nako, from where there is a great view of the Himalayan mountains. The road now follows the course of the Spiti River and the valley widens and the mountain slopes get softer. In Tabo, situated on a wide alluvial plain above the Spiti River, you can relax in my homestay guesthouse for a few days. From Tabo you may learn more about Spiti on my cultural tour or homestay trekking. Upper Spiti can be visited from Kaza, where there is comfortable accommodation (for 2 nights). Then the tour continues across Kunzum Pass (4500m) to Lahaul and after 1 overnight stay over 3 passes to Leh

Pin Valley can be reached from Tabo in a 2-hours’ drive by jeep. In July there is a monastery festival at Gungri, where you can see monks dances and performances by the famous Puchen of Pin. Trekkers can walk into Pin Valley on a 3-days’ tour. On that route you may see the rare ibex.
